how effective are condoms and what is the percentage that they might not work? |
Condom Man says:
Hi Brittany, this is probably one of the biggest questions on every condom users' mind. The truth is that there is no specific, concrete answer to that question, because there are so many different studies and condom brands out there. But an agreed upon number by most people is that condoms have a 98-99% success rate, which means that if you have sex constantly for one year, you are 100 times more likely to get pregnant if you don't use a condom. Keep in mind that knowing how to put a condom on and using it perfectly also contributes to the condom's success rate. |

Can I use a condom if the package has a small hole in it even if the condom itself is fine? |
Condom Man says:
Hi Erin, I compliment you on your cautiousness - however, as long as the condom wrapper itself shows no damage, I wouldn't worry about any slight damage to the retail box. Another thing to consider is how old the condom is, and if the condom has been stored in room-temperature conditions. Those things are the keys to watch out for. |

My lover does not like using condoms. In fact if he starts off with one he usually takes it off because he doesn't get the same sensation. He complains that he can't get the same sensation when using them. What are my options? |
Condom Man says:
Hi Cynthia,
I am very serious when I say you only have ONE option - and that is to immediately stop having unprotected sex and demand safe sex from your partner. While the loss of sensation is a common complaint, it is not common or acceptable for him to jeopardize your health and his own by forgoing condom use.
Once you have made it absolutely clear that you will no longer have unprotected sex, work with him to help fix the sensation issue. Two things are most likely to blame - sizing and lubrication. The most common reason for lack of sensation is lubrication. So pick up a bottle of lube, try out a few different sizes/styles of condoms, and you both should be fine. |

How safe are the Crown Skinless Skin condoms? I've tried looking up safety information but can't find any...thanks! |
Condom Man says:
Hi Luke, Crown condoms, made by Okamoto, are some of the safest condoms manufactured today. Based out of Japan, where condoms are the most common method of birth control, Okamoto's Crown and Beyond Seven condoms are as common as Trojan are here in the US. They hold themselves to the same strict manufacturing standards as Durex, Trojan, and all other big brand-name companies. Thanks for the question - |
