Decades ago the Boy Scouts adopted the motto of “Be Prepared.” When it comes to safe sex in the 21st century, the same motto is applicable. If you truly want to ensure that you engage in safe sex, it is crucial that you be prepared fully to participate in safe sex practices.
Of course, if you are like many people in the world today, you don’t always know when the opportunity for a sexual encounter may arise. The reality is that in many, many cases, sex truly is a spontaneous event. Even though sex may not be planned, that does not negate the need for you to prepared should the occasion for sexual activity arise.
The reality is that many men and women do carry condoms with them. However, in the process of carrying condoms along in the event that these individuals might find the opportunity for a sexual encounter, these individuals simply do not “store” or transport these condoms properly. In other words, because of the means that they select to carry around condoms, these people end up damaging the condoms and rendering these condoms subject to the possibility for failure.
Many men carry condoms around in their wallets and back pockets. Neither of these represent appropriate places to store of carry condoms. When placed in wallets and back pockets, condoms become subject to damage. Condom packages get bent, along with the condom inside. Condoms that have been stored and carried about in this manner have a much higher failure rate.
Another place that both men and women store condoms when they are on the go is the glovebox of an automobile. Again, this is not an appropriate place to store condoms. Temperature variations and the like can have a significant effect on condoms. In the end, condoms that are stored in extreme temperatures – temperatures beyond typical room temperature in either direction – can cause damage to condoms. Condoms stored in this manner run a higher risk of failure when used.
Tossing condoms into a woman’s purse is also not a good method for storing and carrying around condoms. This is yet another situation in which condoms can end up damaged and being more likely to fail when used.
There are now carrying cases that specifically have been designed for condoms. These cases are constructed to protect condoms so that they will be in prime condition when it comes time for them to be used. By using these cases, you will be in the best possible position to ensure that your condoms are in good condition and ready for use.
Finally, even when you chose a proper way to store and carry condoms around, you have to make sure that condoms you intend to use have not reached their expiration date. You simply never should use condoms that have exceeded their expiration date. These condoms simply will not provide the type of effective protection against pregnancy and disease that you have come to expect from these products.
