Are Condoms the Best Contraceptives for You?

When it comes to contraceptive, you have many to select from.  For example, you can use birth control pills, birth control shots, diaphragms, and sponges.  Although all of these contraceptives are effective at preventing pregnancy when used properly, the only contraceptives that also protect you from disease are condoms.

If you are with a lifelong and committed partner that you are certain is faithful and does not have a disease, using contraceptives that only prevent pregnancy may be all that you need.  For most sexually active people, however, it is essential to use contraceptives that also protect against disease.

Condoms are the only contraceptives that have been clinically proven to prevent the transmission of HIV if they are used each and every time you have sex and if they are used properly.  At the same time, they are also one of the most effective methods for preventing pregnancy when used correctly.

Aside from the reliability of condoms, there are many other benefits to using them instead of other types of contraceptives.  For example, birth control pills have medical side effects that can be problematic for women.  In fact, birth control pills should never be considered a long-term answer for women when it comes to contraceptives.  The sponge and the diaphragm can also be uncomfortable or problematic for women, whereas condoms are usually comfortable for both men and women and do not have medical side-effects unless you or your partner are allergic to latex. 

Another benefit to using condoms rather than other contraceptives is the fact that they are available in many different fun colors, shapes, textures, and even flavors.  Therefore, these contraceptives can actually be looked upon as a toy that helps increase the pleasure and joy of your lovemaking.  If you want extra stimulation, you can purchase condoms with ribs, studs, or other textures.  If you have problems with climaxing too soon, you can use condoms that help to control climax.  If you need protection during oral sex, you can get condoms that are flavored so you can enjoy oral pleasure without worrying about passing on or catching a disease.

Of course, condoms are also the most convenient of all of the contraceptives.  For shots and pills, women need to make regular appointments with their doctors and then they need to get prescriptions in order to obtain the medication.  Diaphragms also require medical examinations.  While sponges do not require examination, they can be far more difficult to obtain then condoms. 

Even if you are not looking for a contraceptive to help you prevent pregnancy or disease, you cannot deny that condoms are simply cleaner.
