27th International AIDS Conference 2008 in Mexico City

In a few short months, the 27th International AIDS Conference will commence in Mexico City (August 3-8) bringing with it members and participants from every corner of the globe and a new expanded vision unlike any previous AIDS conference. Scientific research and various studies are continually performed across the globe and this conference will allow participants the opportunity to present, hear and discuss all of these projects. One of the key objectives of this particular conference is to have participants share knowledge on their particular area of expertise with the ultimate goal of increasing HIV/AIDS prevention campaigns and treatment across the globe.

The conference has seven central objectives with an overall vision of promoting participants and organizations to take action while encouraging dialogue and a transfer of knowledge amongst all members. The first objective focuses on allowing all members to speak at length on any scientific study they lead or participated in and reflect on the findings, the lessons that were garnered and any things they would have done differently. The second objective will focus on making governments and leaders more accountable in their stated commitments to HIV/AIDS prevention and treatment.

The third objective is to help elevate the knowledge of the many contributions that a worldwide HIV/AIDS campaign makes to various health, economic and social concerns. The fourth objective is to make this particular conference open to as many people across the globe as possible, especially those people currently living with HIV or AIDS, those people who are at highest risk of contracting HIV (young adults, women and girls) and researchers who have focused their studies on HIV/AIDS. Many more strides and developments can be made if these targeted audiences are able to interact with one another and deliver their own expertise to the table. The fifth objective focuses on ending the dishonor or shame bestowed upon those people infected with HIV/AIDS and those people who commit their lives to helping the infected population.

Coinciding with the fourth objective is the sixth objective which calls for the conference to reach a much larger audience than ever before. To achieve this objective, the conference will utilize web broadcasts of conference sessions to show to similar conferences taking place in other parts of the globe. Also, this conference plans to make available various sessions to the public through online simulcasts via the AIDS Conference website. The final seventh objective calls for a major initiative to increase public awareness of just how far-reaching the HIV/AIDS global campaign has become. Conference organizers hope to achieve this through increased media coverage.

The AIDS 2008 Conference has very ambitious goals and will do everything in its power to ensure the HIV/AIDS plight that continues to rage across the globe is never pushed to the back burner by governments, researchers and the public eye.
