Teenagers, Education and Condoms

November 1st, 2007 · No Comments

A new research conducted by study group PloS Medicine asserted that the spread of human immunodeficiency virus can be effectively contained through teaching teenagers on how to use condoms properly. The research has proven that people can help curtail the widespread of the virus that leads to acquired immunodeficiency syndrome or AIDS.Through the years, sexual education has been controversial. Societies from all across the globe have been in dilemma on how people would be educated on how rapid population growth rate could be controlled. Many people are of the opinion that the best and only way to make people avoid unwanted pregnancy is to teach them about abstinence and celibacy.

Up until now, there are still many countries and governments that do not openly embrace the use of contraceptives like condoms. Those countries are usually heavily persuaded form interest groups who are open in opposing the use and sale of condoms especially to teenagers. Advocates say that teaching adolescents how to use condoms is like teaching them how to enjoy sex, and perhaps encouraging sex in general. People have argued that education on the use of condoms might lead people to think that it is easy to have casual sex with just anyone as long as there are condoms used for protection.Nowadays, more governments are embracing programs to educate people about the use of condoms. When the risks and dangers of sexually transmitted diseases surfaced, more people and governments finally accepted the fact that citizens, especially young people, should be educated on how to use condoms to help curtail the spread of STDs.

AIDS is so far the deadliest and scariest STD known to the modern world. The viral infection does not spare anyone. People of all ages could acquire and develop the disease for as long as sexual contact is facilitated. Parents who are HIV positive could also pass the disease to their newborns.Experts have been quick to note that so far, the use of condoms in all sexual intimacy activities between partners or even groups of people should be required. The education process must start before they decide to engage in sexual intercourse on their own. Experts know that educating adolescents about the proper and correct use of condoms would be greatly helpful and would be necessary over time.

Abstinence or avoidance of sex is undeniably the best preventative measure. Without sex, for sure, there would be no risk of transferring and propagating any sexually transmitted disease. However, convincing the entire young population to practice abstinence is almost always impossible. Especially to young people, there is always a risk that there might be unprotected sex if they are not educated of the severe consequences of not practicing safe sex.In the end, teaching of the proper use of condoms would still be the best and most effective option. Teenagers are starting to openly understand the use and need for condoms. Experts and policy makers hope that in the long run, adolescents and other people actively using condoms would understand the value of safe sex. When that time comes, it would be safe to assert that there is finally the dawn of an enlightened era.
